Stay Healthy Daily: Tips on How to Stay Hydrated

It’s important to stay hydrated daily so you can be healthy always. That means drinking plenty of fluids, like water and juice. But what if you don’t drink enough? You may feel tired and worn out, have a headache or dry mouth, or even get sick. Here are 10 tips on how to stay hydrated every day!
– Drink plenty of fluids, like water and juice.
– Add a slice of lemon or lime to your glass of water for an extra boost!
– Don’t wait until you are thirsty before drinking something—thirst is not the best indicator that we need more fluid. Thirst is only triggered after our body has already lost about one to two percent of its total water volume.
– Slightly increase the amount you drink in warmer weather, when kids are at school all day and adults have more physical activity during the day, or if you’ve been doing any strenuous exercise.
– Shake it up! Add a little fruit juice such as orange or apple, or a small amount of natural fruit concentrate to your water.
– Keep track! One way is to use old milk cartons and fill them with water, then mark the date on each one before you drink it so you know how long it’s been since you last drank from that container.
– If possible, stay hydrated by drinking water while you are cooking and eating.
– Drink a glass of water before going to bed, not with your meal or coffee as this can disrupt sleep quality.
– Keep a bottle of cold water in the fridge at home all day so that it’s ready for when you need a drink on the go!
– To stay hydrated when you travel, take a water bottle with you wherever you go.
– Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially those that are high in vitamin C as the extra levels can help your body store more fluid than usual.
– Drink enough so that your urine is light yellow to straw colored—if it’s darker or smells funny, you’re not drinking enough!
– Get in the habit of carrying a water bottle with you and always keep it full.
– If your blood sugar is low because of diabetes or hypoglycemia, drink plenty of fluids to avoid symptoms such as shakiness, rapid heartbeat and fatigue.
